Today was much more positive. We left knowing that we are making the right decision but that it is just on a different time table. Today there was a panel of people that had given their children up for adoption and it was so inspiring. It was amazing to hear them talk about giving their children a better opportunity and a better life. We also talked a lot about the logistics of adoption and that was also very informative. It made us realize that we have a lot to think about but that we also have a lot of dough to save.
One thing that we noticed today that we hadn't completely explored before was the idea of a mom working outside of the home. I have always wanted to be able to stay home with my children but with the cost of living in CA plus the cost of adoption we just didn't think it was going to be possible. On the birth parent panel they asked each panelist what they were looking for in a family to place their baby with and they all said "She has to be a stay at home mom." Brandon and I both brought that up in the car when we left. We both realize the necessity it is for mom's to be at home today and the importance of it. That means that we have to save even more. Which is fine, but it does push our time table back quite a bit. We feel that we were guided by the Spirit to start the process right now so that we could understand what it was going to take for us to have our eternal family and what we needed to do to plan for that and what we need to do to make it happen. So although we will not be running at this full speed and getting placed with a baby in six months we do know that we will have an eternal family through the miracle of adoption and that when it is supposed to happen it will. The spirit was really comforting today and I am glad we went back for day 2.
Thanks for all of the support!
I'm glad you came back too :) I'm sure you're on overload right now so give yourself some space from adoption-related stuff for the next few days. Just keep doing the best you can and let Heavenly Father worry about the time/money.
ReplyDeleteAlso, maybe the next time we see each other we can talk about the bonding concerns you had. I know we touched a bit on it today but there's an entire interesting world of "bonding" information and experiences out there which may help you. Please remember we want to help however we can! Talk to you later! <3
